OldNewExplorer is a free utility tool for PC that was created by an independent developer who goes by the name Tihiy. This file manager program allows users to make changes to the look and feel of the default file explorer app that comes built-in with Windows versions 10 and 8.1.

Similar to Total Commander, OldNewExplorer is an alternative file management program that users can consider. More specifically, it's for those who use the File Explorer app in Windows 8.1 and 10 but prefer the look and user experience that was provided by the old Windows 7 version.

What is OldNewExplorer?

The release of the Windows 8 operating system marked the arrival of a drastic change to the look and feel of the user interface. This change also extended to core apps like the newly-renamed File Explorer, which users did not like, particularly the new "Ribbon" bar. A lot of them still preferred the look of the old Windows 7 file manager.

OldNewExplorer lets you change the look of the File Explorer in Windows 8 and later versions to look more like it did on Windows 7. Its UI features a single easy-to-use window that is divided into three main sections. Shell extension, Behavior, and Appearance. Shell extension is where you install and uninstall the tool.

The Behavior section lets you bring back the old drive group and libraries used in Windows 7. Lastly, Appearance is where you can replace the Ribbon bar with a command bar, as well as enabling the details pane and status bar. If you're unsatisfied with OldNewExplorer, you can simply uninstall it and things will revert back to how they were before installation.
